Revised Room Access Policy

As you may be aware, we are trying something a bit different with access management to BECA lab spaces this semester. As part of this trial CATS will forego the online access list for BECA lab spaces.

BECA's access list will now be posted on the inside of the entrance doors. The names of students permitted access to the space will appear next to the signature of authorization. This system will require the student to produce their SFSU ID to any CATS staff member or key-holder who will compare it to the posted list. If the student's name is not present or there isn't an accompanying authorization, no access will be granted.

In the event the posted list is missing from the door, students should be instructed to gain access via their department. Hard copies of the entire BECA lab access list can be found in the BECA office and BECA cage.

If problems should occur after normal BECA office hours the CATS office will have a complimentary copy of this list for verification of students. It will be up to BECA to provide the CATS office with all necessary revisions and to change out the list on the doors.

Jeff Rosenstock will be managing this trial for BECA. Please let him know if a list is missing or altered so he can replace it. It is hoped that this process will provide better response time to student access while still providing the necessary lab protection.

Please feel free to voice your opinion during this trial after it gets underway.

Voicemail Issues

As you know there was failure in the campus phone system and I am noticing a lot of faculty and staff whose automated no-answer-call-forward function is no longer functional, which results in phones that just ring forever and not going instead to voice-mail.

Please ask any of your faculty who have single line (or analog) phones to review page eight of the Campus Communications Directory which states the solution to this issue (also found at http://www.sfsu.edu/~doit/phone/single_line.htm):

# *Call forward - no answer* - Automatically forwards your
incoming calls to any extension you select on campus or to Voice
Mail, if your phone is not answered within 15 seconds.
*
To Set: *

* * **Lift handset*
* * * *Dial *2*
* * * *Dial number to which calls will be forwarded (86000
for Voice Mail)*
* *
To Cancel:
o Lift handset
o Dial #2
o Hang up

As soon as the above "To Set" procedure is done they will once again be able to receive messages on their phone when they are not there to answer them.

Microsoft Word File Format (docx) Converter

Microsoft has added new file formats to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 to reduce file size, improve security and reliability, and enhance integration with external sources. To help ensure that you can exchange documents between Microsoft Office releases, Microsoft has developed a Compatibility Pack for the Office Word, Office Excel, and Office PowerPoint 2007 File Formats.
